EMPORIA, Kan. – The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team defeated the Emporia State Hornets on Sunday (Sept. 24) by a score of 3-1, avenging their 1-1 tie against the Hornets last week. The win brings the Tiger’s record to 5-1-2, 1-0 in MIAA, while the Hornets fall to 1-4-3, 0-1 in MIAA. Fort Hays State had three different goal scorers in the conference opening victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers got off to a great start with a goal by Montserrat Diaz<\/a><\/dfn> just over three minutes into the match. The goal was assisted by Reilly Madden<\/a><\/dfn>. The first period scoring continued in the 26′ minute after Sullivan Kelly<\/a><\/dfn>took it herself for her second goal of the season, putting the Tigers in front with a 2-0 commanding lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Allison Worley<\/a><\/dfn> added the third goal of the match for the Tigers just two minutes into the second period. The 3-0 deficit would serve to be too much for Emporia State to overcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hornets did not score until the 65′ when Hannah Worley netted a goal off an assist from Angela Palmer. Fort Hays State outshot Emporia State 12-10 throughout the match with two more shots on goal than the Hornets. Both goalies recorded four saves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers will return home on Friday (Sept. 29) for their first home conference match against the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats with first kick at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
