BROOMFIELD, Colo. – The Fort Hays State women’s golf team tied for 10th at the season-opening Swan Memorial this weekend (Sept. 8-9) at the Broadlands Golf Course. The par-72, 5,996-yard course played tough all week, with the field stroke average coming in at 87.8 after three rounds of competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers turned in a 314 for the first round and then the team had 330 strokes during the second round on day one. The team was able to shave 7 strokes off that second round score in Saturday’s round three. FHSU finished the 14-team tournament with a 54-hole total of 967, tying for 10th place with Bellevue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reigning MIAA Player of the Year, Morgan Brasser<\/a><\/dfn>, finished top 5 in the 86-player field. Brasser opened her senior year off by tying the school record with a 3-under 69 thanks to five birdies and a hole-in-one. Brasser finished with 10 birdies on the weekend and fired rounds of 72, 3-under 69 and then 3-over 75, tying for fourth in the tournament and going even on the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corbyn Marquess<\/a><\/dfn> made her debut with the Tigers and tied for 49th after scores of 77, 82 and 85. Marquess also notched 29 pars along with two birdies. Ella Neuhauser<\/a><\/dfn>shot 83, 86, and 82 and was able to sink four birdies during the weekend. Shauna Lee<\/a><\/dfn> fired rounds of 82, 93 and 81 to finish 69th. Hayden York<\/a><\/dfn> tallied a birdie in round one, but then had to withdraw after the first round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Texas A&M captured the team title by going 37 strokes over CSU Pueblo with a team-total of 10-over 864. Kylie Severin of CSU-Pueblo won the individual title by one stroke at 3-under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers will return to the course in two weeks (Sept. 25-26) to compete at the Regional Preview at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville, Okla.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
