JOPLIN, Mo. – The Fort Hays State women’s golf team placed 11th at the Dr. Virginia Laas Invitational this week (April 10-11) at Eagle Creek Golf Club, the site of this year’s MIAA Women’s Golf Championships. The par-72, 6,066-yard course played tough all week, with the field stroke average coming in at 84.2 after three rounds of competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers turned in back-to-back rounds of 335 on day one before shaving 11 strokes off that score in Tuesday’s round three, finishing with the sixth-best round of the day at 36-over 324. FHSU finished the 17-team tournament with a 54-hole total of 994, three back of 10th place Central Oklahoma and four behind ninth-place Missouri Southern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morgan Brasser<\/a><\/dfn> and Aliyah North<\/a><\/dfn> both finished in the top 20 in the 91-player field. Brasser fired rounds of 11-over 83 and 7-over 79 on the opening day before finishing round three at 3-over 75, the seventh-best round in the field on Tuesday. The junior finished in a tie for 13th after recording four birdies and one eagle on the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North led the entire field with 10 birdies across the 54 holes, including four in the opening round, two in the second round and four more in Tuesday’s round three. The freshman turned in scored of 7-over 79, 12-over 84 and 4-over 76 to finish in 18th place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shauna Lee<\/a><\/dfn> fired rounds of 81, 84 and 90 to finish 57th, with Lexie Ridder<\/a><\/dfn> slotting 67th after scores of 92, 88 and 83.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henderson State captured the team title by five strokes over Central Missouri with a team-total of 52-over 916. HSU’s Jinna Boonbumroongsuk was the individual champion at 1-over after rounds of 72, 73 and 72.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers will return to the course just outside Joplin, Mo. in two weeks when they will contend for the 2023 MIAA Championships April 24-26.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
