NEWTON, Kan. – It was a record day for the Fort Hays State women’s golf team on Monday (April 3), with the Tigers firing back-to-back rounds of 306 to finish seventh in the 15-team field at the Newman Spring Invitational. With strong winds in the forecast for Tuesday, the 36-hole tournament was held in its entirety on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team total of 306 is tied for the second-best round in program history, one shot behind the record total of 305 (9\/25\/17). The tournament total of 612 is the lowest for a two-round tournament in team history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morgan Brasser<\/a><\/dfn> collected her fifth top-five finish of the season, firing rounds of 1-under 71 and 3-under 69 to finish the week at 4-under, the best tournament score in team history. The second-round total of 69 is tied for the lowest round in program history, while the 3-under score is tied for the lowest score in relation to par in program history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aliyah North<\/a><\/dfn> carded a season-low 74 in the opening round before following that up with a 77 to finish at 7-over, finishing in a tie for 24th out of 79 players. The freshman carded three birdies on the day. Over the last two tournaments, her last four rounds have all been 77 or better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lexie Ridder<\/a><\/dfn> opened the day with a career-low 80 before improving that in the second round, turning in a score of 79 to finish at 15-over, tied for 45th. Shauna Lee<\/a><\/dfn> fired consecutive rounds of 81 to finish at 18-over, tied for 54th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henderson State ran away with the team title, finishing at 26-under 550 with all five players finishing in the top 10. Rogers State’s Ellen Loving captured the individual title at 12-under after rounds of 65 and 67.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers will return to action next week at the Dr. Virginia Laas Classic in Joplin, Mo. at Eagle Creek Golf Club.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
