One of these students is Brandon Wolfe. A graduate of the Department of Informatics and former employee of Tiger Media Network, Wolfe now works as an IT seasonal specialist for the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I provide help to our support desk and our solutions management team,” Wolfe said. “Prior to that, I worked as stadium ops for the Chiefs for two years.”

Prior to his graduation in 2020, Wolfe had worked for Tiger Media for two years. He describes this period as the highlight of his college career, and wished he knew about them for his first years at Fort Hays.

“That was when I found the group of people I knew I wanted to work with,” Wolfe said. “I originally worked for printed services and didn’t even know about TMN. If I did, I would’ve joined them sooner.”

However, Wolfe’s journey to this point was not easy, and he dealt with some setbacks during this time.

“As you know, COVID ruined a lot of things,” Wolfe said. “After I graduated, I moved back home and finished my degree.”

Wolfe also explains that he actually found the position he has for the Chiefs just by browsing jobs online.

“It just came up,” he said. “I noticed the Chiefs were hiring for a game day role, so I applied and ended up landing the position.”

As he slowly began to open up and put his foot in the door, Wolfe also began to work some odd jobs when he moved to Kansas City.

“I worked with contractors and painted houses,” Wolfe said. “I also worked at a UPS warehouse. Just stuff to make sure I was stable and that I could provide for myself.”

With how many new people he has been exposed to in his position, Wolfe tells a valuable lesson.

“You just have to learn how to work with these people, and how to read the room,” Wolfe said.

With Super Bowl LVII just around the corner, Wolfe has a lot to do and is happy with it all. He is especially happy with some of the people he is able to work with.

“It’s really great and exciting, and I love to stay on my toes,” he said. “It’s amazing working with people who’ve been working here for over 20 years, and just hearing their stories.”

With his new experience with the NFL and the time he has spent working for the Chiefs, Wolfe offers advice to those looking for a similar opportunity.

“Don’t limit yourself, and always be open,” Wolfe said. “Don’t be afraid to reach out and put your foot in the door.”

Photo courtesy of Brandon Wolfe BY NICK McCOY Many students who graduated from Fort Hays State University go on to have flourishing careers.
