The Fort Hays State wrestling team fell to No. 1 ranked Central Oklahoma 41-6 in its MIAA opener on Thursday (Jan. 26). The Tigers were able to secure wins via decision at 165 pounds and 197 pounds, but it was not enough to overcome an early UCO lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bronchos took the first five matches including a forfeit by the Tigers at 141 pounds. Cody Hicks<\/a><\/dfn> scored the first points for the Tigers. He found himself trailing Garrett Messimor 5-4 with one period left. Hicks chose bottom and scored an escape before securing a takedown late in the period. Messimor would escape but Hicks hung on to capture a 7-6 decision. Fourth-ranked Tereus Henry<\/a><\/dfn> secured the other win for the Tigers leading the entire match on his way to a 10-5 decision at 197 pounds. All eight of the Broncho wins included bonus points with two falls, three technical falls and two major decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers (1-11, 0-1 MIAA) return home this weekend to host Newman on Sunday (Jan. 29) in their first home dual of the season. Action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Newman is 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
