KEARNEY, Neb. – The 17th-ranked Fort Hays State wrestling team fell behind early in each of their three duals on Saturday (Jan. 22) at the Midwest Duals. The Tigers (1-10) were defeated by No. 23 Chadron State, No. 20 Northern State, and No. 23 Western Colorado. Fort Hays State wrestlers combined for three pins and two decisions on the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chadron State racked up 28 points over the first six bouts in the first dual of the day. Juan Urbina<\/a><\/dfn> got the Tigers on the board with a pin at 174 pounds, which helped spark 15 straight points. Bryce Westmoreland<\/a><\/dfn> won by a 7-6 decision at 184 pounds before No. 4 Tereus Henry<\/a><\/dfn>accepted a forfeit at his weight. Chadron State would go on to take the last match of the dual against the Tigers to clinch the 32-15 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers fell in all 10 matches against the Wolves of Northern State. Tony Caldwell<\/a><\/dfn> and Henry came up just short in their bouts, with both falling by just one point. Northern State claimed four major decisions and a pin to help propel them to a 40-0 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Down the stretch of the final dual against Western Colorado, the Tigers collected points by wins from Westmoreland and Henry. Both made quick work, with Westmoreland picking up a pin in just 11 seconds and Henry following that up with a pin in 34 seconds. Caldwell followed up the pins with a 5-2 decision, but was too late as the Mountaineers won the first seven bouts to take dual 33-15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Edmond, Okla. to take on No. 1 Central Oklahoma on Thursday (Jan. 26) in their first conference dual of the season. Action is set to begin 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
