Fort Hays State University is brimming with holiday cheer as it gears up for the annual FHSU Tree Lighting Ceremony that is scheduled to take place tomorrow evening.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the tree that has been used in the past for the tree lighting was unfortunately blown down in last spring\u2019s wind storm, those looking for twinkling lights and holiday cheer needn\u2019t worry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are planning on keeping the ceremony in front of Sheridan. Two new evergreen trees have been planted in the same spot to replace the previous tree,\u201d Student Engagement Coordinator Brett Meyer said. \u201cWe are very excited to celebrate these new evergreens with the kickoff of our event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meyer is unsure of when the tree lighting event officially began but said the event has gained popularity through the years.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEver since it was started, it has been a big hit,\u201d Meyer said. \u201cNearly 200-300 people attend each year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continues by explaining how the tree lighting is important as it excites students and faculty for the Holiday season and motivates everyone to finish the semester strong. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith finals happening shortly, the students and staff can take a breath and go enjoy some hot chocolate with their friends and be reminded of the little things in life that matter such as friendship, community and belonging,\u201d Meyer said. <\/p>\n\n\n

Meyer also points out the community aspect of the ceremony and how special it is for the little ones to be on-campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStudent Engagement also loves this event because it unites the FHSU students with the community,\u201d he said. \u201cNothing is better than having future Tigers in attendance and for them to get to be around current as well as past FHSU students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event would not be made possible without everyone that has contributed to the Christmas spirit. Meyer touches on how long this ceremony has been in the works as well as wishes a quick note of gratitude for everyone that was involved with the planning, preparation, or execution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have been planning this event ever since homecoming ended. We have a great group of students and graduate students that volunteered to put on this Christmas miracle, and they have been working very hard to make it a special evening,\u201d Meyer said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meyer concludes by mentioning his own favorite part of the night as well as hints at the fact that this year will be slightly different than years previous. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy favorite activity would be the picture with Santa,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are getting creative this year and making it an enjoyable experience not only for children but for the FHSU students.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
