The Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO) partnered with the relatively new Save the Kids group here at FHSU to hold a Halloween bucket drive community service project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two groups worked together to fill forty buckets with candy, snacks, and toys. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Twenty of the buckets will go to the Fort Hays Tiger Tots and the other twenty will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President of Save the Kids, Holly Linenberger, shared that the mission of the organization is to \u201chelp kids in the Hays community and expand in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abdiel Trejo, president of HALO and also a member of Save the Kids, explained the organization is focusing on community service more than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trejo went on to describe how his previous experience volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters provided the inspiration for the 20 donated buckets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI used to be a Big Brother and I know a lot of the kids they serve may want a little treat basket because sometimes they might not be able to get one,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both Linenberger and Trejo were excited about the opportunity to collaborate and help FHSU students serve the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event had a large turnout and both groups considered it to be a great success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
