Tri Sigma sorority hosted their annual \u201cPie a Sigma Tri\u201d philanthropy event on the quad Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students paid to put a plate full of whipped cream on the face of a Tri Sigma member. One \u201cpie\u201d cost $2 and three cost $5. Proceeds from the event went to support the March of Dimes Foundation which supports children born prematurely and works to decrease the dangers of childbirth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMarch of Dimes is a huge part of Tri Sigma,\u201d sorority member Marisa Sanchez said. \u201cOur philanthropy was chosen by our founding sisters way back when.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Robbie Page, son of the fourth Tri Sigma Nation President Mary Hastings Holloway Page, died of bulbar polio in 1951. Tri Sigma members stepped up and helped fund polio research vaccines through the Robbie Page Memorial Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe memorial fund goes hand-in-hand with the March of Dimes,\u201d Sanchez said. \u201cI love my chapter and all the work we do for children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chapter also supports the Tri Sigma foundation which serves many purposes. The \u201cSister in Need\u201d program helps members who are struggling financially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis can help with tuition, room and board or anything that a sister is in need of financially, you can apply for that,\u201d Sanchez said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foundation also helps start new chapters and support existing chapters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chapter raised over $250 for March of Dimes and will continue its fundraising efforts at a spring philanthropy event. During Sanchez\u2019s four years in the sorority, the spring event has varied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe normally either do Sigma Sketti, which is all-you-can-eat spaghetti that we cook for the community or we have SIgma Stacks, which is all-you-can-eat pancakes and breakfast items,\u201d Sanchez said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
