Fort Hays State University\u2019s Science Caf\u00e9 for September is set for Monday, September 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The monthly presentation, entitled \u201cDART \u2013 a\ntargeted mission \u2013 how do we move an asteroid?,\u201d is sponsored by FHSU\u2019s Science and\nMathematics Education Institute (SMEI), will begin at 7 p.m. at The Venue in\nThirsty\u2019s Brew Pub & Grill, 2704 Vine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Paul Adams, Dean, College of Education,  Professor of\nPhysics and Anschutz, Professor of Education,  NASA JPL Solar System\nAmbassador will talk about the DART satellite. This satellite is scheduled to\nslam into the asteroid Dimorphos, which orbits a larger asteroid named Didymos\nat the speed of 15,000 mph. Picture a vending machine hitting the pyramid of\nGiza. The goal is to slightly change the orbital time of Dimorphos as the first\ntest of planetary defense from asteroid collisions. While neither asteroid is\nany threat to Earth, it is a proof-of-concept mission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
