{"id":64391,"date":"2022-03-29T16:18:05","date_gmt":"2022-03-29T21:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=64391"},"modified":"2022-03-29T16:18:08","modified_gmt":"2022-03-29T21:18:08","slug":"fhsu-students-advance-to-faulkner-challenge-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=64391","title":{"rendered":"FHSU students advance to Faulkner Challenge finals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three teams of Fort Hays State University students made the finals of the 2022 Faulkner Challenge following their oral presentations to a panel of six judges on Saturday, March 26. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nfinals \u2013 set for Friday, April 1, in FHSU\u2019s Hansen Hall \u2013 will be held in front\nof a live audience for the first time since 2019. The competition, hosted by\nFHSU\u2019s Center for Entrepreneurship, was canceled in 2020 because of the\npandemic, and last year\u2019s event was held virtually. This year\u2019s finals, which\nare free and open to the public, will begin at 1:30 p.m. The presentations also\nwill be available to view in virtual form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nFaulkner Challenge is a business plan competition designed to develop entrepreneurial\nimagination and innovation in university students, regardless of major or\ninterests. It is open to any new venture in the conceptual stage, the seed\nstage, or the startup stage. Teams are evaluated on their ability to clearly\nidentify market opportunity, value proposition, and sustainable competitive\nadvantage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nchallenge includes a written business plan and a 10-minute oral presentation. A\ntotal of 13 teams of Fort Hays State students submitted entries for\nconsideration, and a three-person committee selected eight to make oral\npresentations. One team withdrew before the presentations, leaving seven to vie\nfor the finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\njudges asked questions at the end of the seven presentations and provided\nfeedback to the students. The three finalists are allowed to tweak their\npresentations before the finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nchallenge was the brainchild of FHSU alum Kevin Faulkner, who created an\nendowed fund for the business plan challenge. The\n$10,000 prize money is split among the top three teams each year. The\nfirst-place team will receive $6,000 in prize money, with the second-place team\nreceiving $3,000 and third place $1,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following\nare the seven presentations with a brief synopsis of each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Top\nthree finalists (in alphabetical order)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022\nCow Fences \u2013 creating an E-grocery for shipping meat across the country. Team\nmember: Ethan McPherson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022\nSky Sprayers \u2013 building and patenting an autonomous lightweight drone for\nfarmers to spray their fields. Team members: Wyatt Cyr, Chance Fuhrman, John\nGamez-Ramos, Tyler Preisser, Kole West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022\nVitality Thrift \u2013 create an online thrift store where part of the profit is\nreturned to a not-for-profit organization. Team members: Easton Bradbury,\nCaitlin Leiker, Faith Little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other\npresentations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022\nCollege Pro \u2013 create a customizable planner for college students to provide\neasy access to services. Team members: Emily Hipp, Lauren Wagner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022\nManifest Scrubs \u2013 offer the sale of a larger variety of scrubs as the need for\nhealthcare workers continues to grow. Team members: Grace Carder, Brett Loving,\nColton Potts, Emily Schulte, Kameron Schneider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Ride Buddy \u2013 how to cut travel expenses by splitting costs with other riders going to similar destinations. Team members: Andre Aires, Edwin Garcia, Cody Hicks, Aniol Majoral, Fiorella Mendez, Luciana Mendoza, Connor Seibel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Wayfarer \u2013 creating an app to assist travelers on trips.
