Tuesday marked the sixth day of conflict between\nthe countries of Russia and Ukraine. Since Feb. 24, when Russia commenced its\nformal invasion of Ukraine, the world has seemingly come to a standstill —\nanxiously awaiting the latest news and updates from within Ukraine. This is\nTiger Media Network\u2019s update and analysis of the latest news as of Tuesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the political front, Ukrainian President\nVolodymyr Zelensky has condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s targeting\nof civilians and accused Russia of war crimes following the deaths of 136\nUkrainian civilians, 13 of which were children, according to the New York\nTimes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reuters <\/em>has\nreported Zelensky desperately pleaded with European Parliament, a legislative\nbranch of the European Union made up of 705 directly elected members, to\nfast-track their admittance to the organization, which would bolster financial\nand moral support as well as provide weapons for the Ukrainian government,\nmilitary and civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his emotional speech, Zelensky said, \u201cDo prove that you are indeed Europeans, and then life will win\nover death and light will win over darkness.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky\u2019s emotional plea was enough for\nEuropean Parliament to pass a non-binding resolution which will implore leaders\nwithin the EU to impose stiffer sanctions on Russia and provide additional\nweapons to Ukraine in a 637-13 vote. This, in addition to wearing Ukrainian\nribbons, flags and other items, was an immense show of support for the\nUkrainian people from the EU and the European Parliament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to note that as Zelensky spoke\nto the European Parliament, Russian troops continued to march through the\nnation and towards Kyiv, Ukraine\u2019s capital city, where Zelensky is located. The\nRussian troops, in a 40-mile long caravan, have continued to make advances\ntowards Kyiv where it is feared they will attempt to circle the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New York Times <\/em>reported that Tuesday\nmorning seven people were killed in an explosion at an administrative building\nin Kherson, the same city where a hospital was destroyed by a Russian rocket\ncausing additional fatalities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ukrainians have continued to put up an\nimpressive resistance to the invasion, which has been assisted by Russia\u2019s\nsudden lack of food and gasoline for troops. The resistance is likely the\nresult of the Ukrainian people\u2019s strong desire to remain an independent nation,\nfree from Russian influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But, as a result of the intense violence and\nturmoil, 660,000 Ukrainians have now fled the nation, according to reports from\nUN Refugee Agency, with 377,000 finding shelter and rest in Poland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States\nwas in attendance at President Biden\u2019s State of the Union Address, where he\naddressed Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine among other domestic issues. The\nambassador, however, did not attend the event as a guest of the president, but\nof First Lady Jill Biden, according to CBS News. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Biden\u2019s State of the Union included a\nharsh indictment of Russia\u2019s actions and a pledge to \u201cinflict pain\u201d on Putin\nand strong sentiments of support for Zelensky and the Ukrainian people. It is\nspeculated Biden made this addition to his speech as a direct reflection of\nRussian inflicted chaos in Ukraine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
