The 2022 Kansas Undergraduate Research Days event is set for March 1-3 in an online format. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Undergraduate\nstudents from the four-year public universities in the Kansas Board of Regents\n(KBOR) \u2013 including five from Fort Hays State University \u2013 are working on 40\ndifferent projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is\nfree and can be viewed at https:\/\/symposium.foragerone.com\/kansas-undergraduate-research-days<\/a>\nany time\nbetween 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, and midnight\nThursday, March 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dawn Tallchief,\nthe coordinator of this year\u2019s event, said that Undergraduate Research Days\nshowcases undergraduate research in Kansas, providing a forum for\nundergraduates from across Kansas to present their research to our state\nlegislators and other guests visiting the website. Tallchief is assistant\ndirector for Student Programs with the Center for Undergraduate Research at the\nUniversity of Kansas, this year\u2019s sponsor of the annual research days event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kansas\nUndergraduate Research Days website will feature posters and accompanying\nstudent videos describing the research projects. Visitors will be able to comment\nand post questions for the student presenters. Students, faculty, KBOR members,\nstate lawmakers, and the public from across the state are invited to\nparticipate. The event is intended to raise awareness of research being\nconducted by undergraduate students and to highlight the transformational\neducational opportunities available to students at each KBOR university.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

FHSU student\nresearch participants, in alphabetical order, are:\n\nTitilayo Egbebi will present \u201cHidden Curriculum of an Outdoor\nSchool.\u201d<\/em> Titilayo is a senior from Bethel Park, Pa., who is\nmajoring in teacher education. Dr. Matthew Clay, assistant professor of teacher\neducation, served as the faculty research sponsor.

\nJersey Garoutte will present \u201cFundamental\nFrequency Resetting in Persons with Parkinson\u2019s Disease.\u201d <\/em>Jersey is\na sophomore from Pueblo, Colo., who is majoring in communication sciences and\ndisorders. Dr. Qiang Li, assistant professor of communication sciences and\ndisorders, served as the faculty research sponsor.

\nJenna Howard will present \u201cMicrobial\nIsolation and DNA Analysis of Turner Hall Woods\u2019 Natural Hydrocarbon Seep on\nthe Island of Barbados.\u201d <\/em>Jenna is a senior from WaKeeney who is\nmajoring in geosciences. Dr. Jeanne Sumrall, instructor of geosciences, served\nas the faculty research sponsor. Michael Shinkle and Micayla Gutierrez,\nbiology, will serve as co-presenters.

\nHaley Pfeifer will present \u201cAll-Atom\nSimulations Uncover Structural and Dynamical Differences Between Full-length\nHuman and Chicken STING in Membrane Systems.\u201d <\/em>Haley is a sophomore\nfrom Great Bend who is a student with the Kansas Academy of Math and Sciences.\nDr. Masakatsu Watanabe, assistant professor of chemistry, served as the faculty\nresearch sponsor. Lyly Le, chemistry, will serve as a co-presenter. 

\nMegan Shepard will present \u201cRural\nDisparities in Intimate Partner Violence Services – A Review of Current\nLiterature<\/em>.\u201d Megan is a junior from Kinsley who is majoring in\nsociology.
