{"id":63112,"date":"2022-01-31T10:59:28","date_gmt":"2022-01-31T16:59:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=63112"},"modified":"2022-01-31T10:59:31","modified_gmt":"2022-01-31T16:59:31","slug":"hays-night-to-shine-goes-virtual-with-a-drive-thru-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=63112","title":{"rendered":"Hays Night to Shine goes virtual with a drive-thru parade"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BY ALICIA FEYERHERM<br>PHOTOS BY LAURYN BECKER<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On January 29, The Tim Tebow Foundation, in coordination with Celebration Church, hosted the Night to Shine \u201cShine Thru\u201d&nbsp; Parade.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community members held signs and cheered while individuals with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD) drove by in decorated vehicles.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hays Hosts Night to Shine Parade\" width=\"790\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9d-ZnTO1WKo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally, Night to Shine is a prom event with music and dancing, but due to COVID-19 concerns, the event was moved virtually for the second year in a row.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBecause this event is an international event and sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, we have to follow exactly what they want and they came out and said that we had to do a virtual event again,\u201d Addie Roth, a member of the Night to Shine Leadership Board, said.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With it being a virtual event, planning looked a little different than typical years.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis year, since we did the parade, it\u2019s a little more planning around the weather, planning around getting more of the community involved,\u201d Leadership Board member Macyn Decker said. \u201cWe have to fill out different forms and things to get the sponsorship and to get donations from different businesses.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the parade requires fewer volunteers. In a typical year, about 250 volunteers attend, but with the modified format, only 50 volunteers were needed.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 period.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe start meeting normally once or twice a month in August and then from August on into January,\u201d Decker said. \u201cIn January we start meeting more than two or three times a week to try and get things together as much as we can before the actual event.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Leadership Board is composed of about 10 individuals who are passionate about and connected to the IDD community.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Roth, her inspiration for joining the board was her two brothers who both have Intellectual Developmental Disabilities.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOnce I saw Night to Shine and what it was I always said I wanted to get on the leadership team if I could,\u201d Roth said. \u201cIf not, I was just going to volunteer every single year.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is Roth\u2019s second year on the board.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy first year, I was a buddy and it was the best night of my life,\u201d Roth said. \u201cJust seeing the joy of my buddy was everything.
