{"id":62094,"date":"2021-11-16T13:05:17","date_gmt":"2021-11-16T19:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=62094"},"modified":"2021-11-16T13:05:19","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T19:05:19","slug":"fhsu-holds-international-education-week-kick-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=62094","title":{"rendered":"FHSU holds International Education Week kick-off"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BY CORIE LYNN<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With students and faculty looking on, FHSU President Dr. Tisa Mason and Hays Mayor Sandy Jacobs signed proclamations recognizing International Education Week at FHSU and in the city of Hays.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This event marked the kick-off of a week of cultural celebration and education.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the kick-off began, guests were welcomed by a group of students from FHSU\u2019s Chinese partner schools singing over Zoom.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A video providing more information on Sias also began the event, with the university\u2019s founder Dr. Shawn Chen speaking on the partnership then followed.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carol Solko-Olliff, Director of International Student Services, lead the kick-off.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur goal is for all students to feel welcome here and part of the tiger family as well as part of the Hays community,\u201d she said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As she addressed the kick-off\u2019s guests, Solko-Olliff explained that FHSU\u2019s international students come from 28 countries with the majority of the students coming from China, Senegal and Paraguay.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Solko-Olliff, International Education Week celebrated at the university is part of a national event designed to bring cultural awareness to communities and colleges.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to have activities planned, which will allow international students and staff to share their cultures, as well as panels and presentations from international-related topics,\u201d she said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such events include an international food and fashion night, presentations to high school students and information on study abroad opportunities.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the kick-off, international students spoke on the opportunities and sense of family they have found at FHSU.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luciana Mendoza, a student from Paraguay, began her first semester with FHSU online.
