JOPLIN, Mo. – FHSU Women’s Soccer pulled out a 1-0 victory at Missouri Southern in Joplin on Sunday (Oct. 17). After returning from halftime scoreless, the Tigers found the net quickly in the second half and the defense held off the Lions to secure the win. The Tigers improve to 5-6-3 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA, while the Lions fall to 3-9-2 overall and 2-5 in conference play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neither team had much to show in the first half as they combined for only seven shots. The game’s lone goal finally came about seven minutes into the second half when Cailey Perkins<\/a> netted her first goal of the season from the right side of the box off a pass from Emily Hutchings<\/a>. The Tiger defense was able to keep the Lions at bay and secure the victory behind four saves from Deonna Wellbrock<\/a>. The Lions finished ahead in the shot battle 14-8 and also put one more shot on target. The Tigers will be back in action on Friday Oct. 22nd<\/sup> when they travel to Claremore, Okla. to take on Rogers State. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

WARRENSBURG,\nMo. – A second-half rally by FHSU Women’s Soccer fell short against No. 17\nCentral Missouri by a final score of 4-2 on Friday night. Down 3-0, the Tigers\nnetted a pair of goals to pull within one with ten minutes left, but the\nJennies were able to score once more with just under six minutes remaining to\nseal a victory. The Jennies improved to 11-1-1 (5-0-1 MIAA) and the Tigers fell\nto 4-6-3 (1-5 MIAA).\n\nThe Jennies jumped ahead early as they found the\nnet in the 10th<\/sup> minute and the 30th<\/sup> minute off of a\ncouple of nice crosses into the box to build a 2-0 lead, which was the score at\nhalftime. The Jennies continued their scoring again just two minutes into the\nsecond half, extending their lead to 3-0.

\nThe Tigers began to fight back on offense as Alex\nHutton<\/a> notched her third goal of the season in the 67th<\/sup>\nminute off a pass from Cailey\nPerkins<\/a>. Hutton raced past her defender and beat the keeper in\na 1-on-1 situation. Amanda\nRapaduski<\/a> followed by scoring her fourth goal of the season in\nthe 79th<\/sup> minute on the left side of the box off of a pass from Carly\nWalker<\/a>. The Tigers kept looking for opportunities to equalize\nthe match, but UCM put the game away with the late goal. The Jennies led in the\nshot count for the match 21-17. Keepers Deonna\nWellbrock<\/a> and Maddie\nMeehan<\/a> combined for eight saves, while UCM keeper Lindsey\nJohnson recorded only three.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
