{"id":61506,"date":"2021-10-12T13:12:49","date_gmt":"2021-10-12T18:12:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=61506"},"modified":"2021-10-12T13:12:51","modified_gmt":"2021-10-12T18:12:51","slug":"womens-basketball-tops-preseason-miaa-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=61506","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s basketball tops preseason MIAA polls"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KANSAS CITY, Mo. &#8211; After winning its fourth MIAA championship a year ago, the Fort Hays State women&#8217;s basketball team is ranked first in both 2021-22 conference preseason polls, released Tuesday (Oct. 12) at MIAA Basketball Media Day presented by Seigfreid Bingham.<br><br> The Tigers are alone atop the coaches poll after picking up six of the possible 13 first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team), while FHSU is tied with Central Missouri for first place in the media poll.<br><br> The Tigers picked up 159 points in the coaches poll, five in front of Central Missouri and six ahead of Nebraska-Kearney. The Jennies and Lopers both received three first-place votes, while fourth-place Emporia State was listed atop the final two ballots and earned 136 points.<br><br> FHSU and Central Missouri both picked up 118 total points in the media poll, with the Tigers sitting atop four of the nine ballots submitted. Nebraska-Kearney was six points behind at 112, with ESU in fourth with 98 points.<br><br> Fort Hays State tied the conference record with 20 league victories last season, finishing the year 20-2 in conference play and 22-4 overall.
