All good things must come to an end, and Fort Hays State University\u2019s Journey campaign \u2013 the largest fundraising campaign in university history \u2013 is no exception. The Journey campaign kicked off Homecoming of 2016 with a goal of raising $100 million in support of FHSU and its students over a five-year period. Those years have flown by, and not only was that ambitious goal reached \u2013 it was surpassed. Fort Hays State University is thrilled to announce that throughout the Journey campaign a total of $112,769,457 has been raised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These donations will significantly\nimpact the lives of Fort Hays State students for years to come. FHSU\u2019s\npresident, Dr. Tisa Mason, remarked on how the contributions of our donors\nshape the lives of students:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are hundreds of thousands of\nstudent stories at Fort Hays State. Each embodies its unique theme of challenge\nand perseverance,\u201d she said. \u201cTheir stories are our stories. And our story is\none of love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness.\nOur story is about everyday heroes, amazing grace, and tomorrow\u2019s leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To illustrate how the philanthropy of\nour donors can change the trajectory of a student\u2019s life, we need only look at\nthe story of Luz Gomez. As a first-generation student who had to overcome many\nfinancial hurdles to be at FHSU, she knows better than most the true impact\nthat scholarships can have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gomez expressed her gratitude toward\nFHSU\u2019s benefactors, saying, \u201cThe impact that you are making on the life of a student\nis more than you can ever know. If it wouldn’t have been for those scholarships\nand that help, I wouldn\u2019t be at this institution, and quite honestly, I don\u2019t\nknow if I would have been able to go to school. Scholarships are so important\nand continue to be important. It truly changes your future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gomez is among the many students at Fort\nHays State to have been positively impacted by the Journey campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are grateful and humbled to have had\nmore than 24,000 donors contribute to our Journey campaign over the last five\nyears,\u201d said Jason Williby, president and CEO of the FHSU Foundation. \u201cEach and\nevery gift has contributed to an education, a bright future, and lives changed.\nOur Tiger family is simply the best, and we cannot thank you enough for your\ngenerosity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo commemorate the fundraising\ncampaign\u2019s triumphant conclusion,\u201d Williby continued, \u201cwe look forward to\ncelebrating the contributions of our amazing donors and marvel at how much has\nbeen accomplished throughout the upcoming Homecoming weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
