For the first time in two years, students are able to once again display their acting and singing talents on the stage, this time in a production of \u201cThe Music Man.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"FHSU Musical Theatre to perform &quot;The Music Man&quot;\" width=\"790\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K0XgzZwNxh8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For many of the students, putting on the musical means finally getting back to doing what they love.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt feels really good because last year I was doing nothing, and this year I\u2019m doing everything. It just feels good because we\u2019re all music people and we didn\u2019t get to do any music. I\u2019m getting to do my thing again,\u201d senior Braydon Boyer said.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boyer plays one of the lead characters, \u201cThe Music Man,\u201d who is better known as Harold \u201cGregory\u201d Hill. Playing opposite of Boyer is fellow senior Jenna Confer, who\u2019s character is the town librarian and love interest of Harold Hill, Marian.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Confer, like Boyer, was also eager to be in another FHSU production, something she has been doing for her entire college career.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is absolutely incredible to be back on stage with all of some of my best friends,\u201d she said, \u201cI\u2019ve been doing theatre, plays, musicals, and opera, with [some of these people] for four or five years now. So to be able to be back on stage singing, dancing, acting, and doing what we absolutely love most is the most incredible feeling ever.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Confer also mentioned the uncertainty of last year, and how she wasn\u2019t sure what the possibility of her doing another show was.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot being able to do productions last year was obviously challenging,\u201d she said. \u201cChallenging for not only students, but for everyone involved.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Technical Director and Production Designer Carl Sage has been at Fort Hays since 2019.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnderstandably, everybody was frustrated. It provided an interesting challenge for me, because several of my classes are heavily oriented towards the production of the stage shows,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sage\u2019s students would normally help build sets or write a paper on one of the live shows.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very different to do theatre without doing theatre,\u201d he said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Director of Theatre Tomme Williams mentioned the students were able to do a couple of plays for themselves and family members to enjoy, but in her words, \u201cThe entire ordeal was an ordeal, no matter how you look at it.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Williams and Sage both share the students\u2019 excitement about putting on a show again, they both noted how they are having to get used to the whole process again.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGetting back into the groove has taken a little bit of effort, and getting used to all the time it takes,\u201d Williams said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sage felt much the same.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a little odd, to be quite candid. I\u2019ve just never had the opportunity, so that\u2019s really cool.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Confer, this production has the biggest cast of any show she\u2019s done since coming to Fort Hays.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy favorite part has been working with such a wide variety of people,\u201d Confer said. \u201cWorking with freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors has been really fun.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patrons can see this classic come to life at 7:30 on October 7, 8 and 9 and at 2:30 on October 10 on the Felton Start Theatre stage, which is housed in Malloy Hall.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY RAEGAN NEUFELD Excitement is in the air for the FHSU Music and Theatre department.
