DENVER, Colo. – The Fort Hays State men’s cross country team competed well on Friday (Sept. 17), placing fourth at a competitive Roadrunner Invitational. Three nationally-ranked teams and two Division I teams had entries in the race.

The Tigers picked up 106 points in the team standings, 10 points clear of host MSU-Denver. Robbie Schmidt<\/a> led the Tigers in ninth place, traversing the eight-kilometer course at Washington Park in 25:05.7.

Caleb Carrasco<\/a> was the next Tiger to cross the line, placing 29th with a time of 26:22.9. Jaret Pfizenmaier<\/a> (26:39.3) and Erick Estrada<\/a> (26:42.0) finished back-to-back, placing 37th and 38th, respectively. Aaron Mangan<\/a> rounded out the FHSU top five in 56th with a time of 27:27.2.

Colorado School of Mines, the top-ranked team in the country, won the team race with five runners in the top 10, including individual champion Chris Cathcart and his time of 24:16.9.

The Tigers are scheduled to run again next Friday (Sept. 24) when they head to Emporia State for the ESU Invitational beginning at 5 p.m.

Women<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Fort Hays State women’s cross country team\nplaced fifth at the Roadrunner Invitational on Friday (Sept. 17) at Washington\nPark. The Tigers finished one spot higher than UC-Colorado Springs, the\nninth-ranked team in the country.

\nFort Hays State picked up 143 points in the team standings, 16 more than UCCS\nand 43 clear of Division I Wyoming.

\nRunning the first six-kilometer race of the season, Abigail\nStewart<\/a> placed 18th with a time of 23:01.7. Brooke\nNavarro<\/a> traversed the course in 23:34.6, good for 29th. Emily\nSalmans<\/a> placed 37th with a time of 24:06.8, while Jaycee\nVath<\/a> crossed the line in 24:34.8 to place 48th. Darian\nHudgeons<\/a> was the fifth Tiger across the line, placing 52nd\nwith a time of 24:53.7.

\nColorado School of Mines, the No. 2-ranked team in the country, took the team\ntitle with 27 points after placing five runners in the top nine. Megan Mooney\nfrom DI Colorado State took the individual crown with a time of 21:21.9.

\nThe Tigers are scheduled to run again next Friday (Sept. 24) when they head to\nEmporia State for the ESU Invitational beginning at 5 p.m.
