FHSU Women’s Soccer posted its fourth shutout of the season on Sunday (Sept. 19), downing Nebraska-Kearney 3-0. One goal in the first half and two in the second propelled the Tigers to victory. The Tigers are now 3-1-2 overall and the Lopers fell to 1-5. The Tigers started off attacking into the wind and struggled to get into scoring position. The Tigers only shot five times in the first half, but were able to turn one into a goal as Jordan Thompson<\/a> took the ball down the pitch and netted a score in the bottom left of the goal in the 32nd<\/sup> minute, It was her second goal of the season.

After halftime the Tigers went to work with the wind at their back. Alex Hutton<\/a> scored her second goal of the season pinching between two defenders and shuffling the ball into the lower left of the goal in the 71st<\/sup> minute. Tessa Irvine<\/a> and Hannah Mares<\/a> were credited for assists. The Tigers then found the goal for the third time at around the 81st<\/sup> minute as Carly Walker<\/a> kicked the ball in off of a free kick from Katie Evans<\/a>. That goal was Walker’s second of the season. In the second half the Tigers shot 16 times and won the overall shot battle 21-3.

Keepers Maddie Meehan<\/a> and Isabel Robben<\/a> combined for three saves as they posted a clean sheet.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday (Sept. 24) as they head to Topeka to take on Washburn. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

FHSU\nWomen’s Soccer played to a 1-1 draw with No. 6 ranked Emporia State on Friday\nnight (Sept. 17) at FHSU Soccer Stadium. ESU struck first with a stick back\ngoal off a saved penalty kick, but FHSU responded with a strike of their own\nmidway through the second half. Neither team could find a golden goal in extra\ntime, though both had decent chances.\n\nIn the 21st<\/sup> minute of action, the Tigers\nwere called for a foul inside the box which set up Hannah Woolery of ESU for a\npenalty kick. The initial penalty kick was saved by keeper Deonna\nWellbrock<\/a>, but Woolery collected the carom and put the ball in\nthe net on her second strike. The Tigers responded in the 63rd<\/sup>\nminute as Amanda Rapuduski took a pass from Emily\nHutchings<\/a> outside the box and shot it out of the keeper’s\nreach. It was Rapuduski’s second goal of the season, the most goals scored on\nthe team by an individual so far.

\nThe Hornets were slightly more active on offense as they outshot the Tigers\n18-15. Keeper Deonna\nWellbrock<\/a> ended the match with eight saves compared to six\nsaves collectively for both ESU keepers that played in the match.
