{"id":60310,"date":"2021-07-08T07:40:37","date_gmt":"2021-07-08T12:40:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=60310"},"modified":"2021-07-08T07:40:40","modified_gmt":"2021-07-08T12:40:40","slug":"hci-returns-to-fhsu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=60310","title":{"rendered":"HCI returns to FHSU"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>BY UNIVERSITY RELATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diego Esparza said he learned a lot while helping plan the Hispanic College Institute in 2019, when he worked for Fort Hays State University\u2019s Enrollment Management as a graduate student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is putting that knowledge to good use\nthis year as co-chair of the HCI Steering Committee, which is comprised of a\ndiverse group of individuals from across the Student Affairs division. HCI is a\nresidential program that prepares high school students to enter and succeed in\nhigher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like other summer event planners at\nFHSU, the HCI staff is excited about students returning to campus this summer\nafter all youth activities were canceled a year ago because of the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are just so glad to be able to host\nthe HCI again,\u201d said Esparza, assistant director of Student Engagement. \u201cWe are\nlooking forward to having students back on campus this year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The free event \u2013 traditionally held in\nJune for three nights and four days \u2013 this year was moved to a weekend later in\nthe summer. It is scheduled for Friday through Sunday, July 23-25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Counselors, or HCI leads, will report\nfor training on Thursday, with HCI participants scheduled for arrival Friday\nafternoon. They will hear from FHSU alumni,\ntelling about the impact that the Fort Hays State education experience has had\non their lives. And they will make new friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HCI gives students a taste of\ncollege life while introducing them to the beautiful Fort Hays State campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who better to promote FHSU than Esparza,\nwho has either attended school or worked at three regional universities.\nEsparza gained a wealth of knowledge from his different experiences, which he\nwas eager to bring back to the Fort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was great to come back to Fort Hays\nState,\u201d Esparza said. \u201cI love the environment here.
