Fort Hays State University\u2019s Dane G. Hansen Scholarship Hall is currently recruiting community builders with entrepreneurial mindsets to join the cohort of students that reside in the hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hansen\nScholarship Hall is among the newer residence halls on campus, built in 2016,\nand provides living space to a select group of undergraduate and graduate\nstudents at FHSU. The residence hall includes 33 private rooms (11 on each\nfloor) and offers student access to multi-purpose study rooms, a fully equipped\ncommercial-grade kitchen, and in-house laundry facilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond\nthe appealing living space and amenities, the main focus of living in the\nscholarship hall is about the students themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\nare creating an environment that supports students with the entrepreneurial\nspirit,\u201d said Dr. Jane Talkington, assistant professor of management and\nadvisor for the scholarship hall. \u201cAll of the students have one thing in common\n\u2013 they want to create, market, and a make a living with these skills.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having\nextensively studied community behavior, writing a dissertation titled\n\u201cFostering Innovation in Communities of Innovators, Talkington understands the\nskillset required to live in a communal setting with a common goal. \u201cWe are\nteaching a mindset – how to identify a problem, generate possible solutions,\nevaluate those solutions to find the most feasible, and implement that\nsolution,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nscholarship hall provides a living environment for students who are interested\nin developing a variety of skills while striving for educational, communal, and\npersonal success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat\nis unique about Hansen Hall is the spirit of generosity,\u201d Talkington stated.\n\u201cEveryone has individual skills to contribute to the whole instead of focusing\nsolely on individual development at the university. We are providing a\ndifferent perspective and developing a practice of generosity and helping\nothers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nopportunity for engagement and growth is plentiful, including live cooking\ndemonstrations alongside international students, participation in the local art\nwalks to display student work, faculty dinners, and a student governance system\nthat includes the mayor, deputy mayor, and six city commissioners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those\ninterested in applying for residence must be enrolled full-time at FHSU,\nmaintaining a cumulative GPA requirement of 2.50 for undergraduates and 3.0 for\ngraduate students. Students in any program of study are eligible to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nCenter for Entrepreneurship offers scholarships to assist in living costs.\nThere are currently eight scholarships available to resident candidates. With\nassistance of the scholarship, cost of living in Hansen Hall per semester is\n$1,488. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
