CoSIDA named sophomores Alec Bevis<\/a> and Kieran Brown<\/a> of Fort Hays State Men’s Soccer to its Academic All-District Team on Thursday (June 3). Bevis and Brown are among just eight individuals from District 7 (GAC\/MIAA Conference) to receive the honor. Sports Information and Athletic Communication professionals within District 7 vote on the Academic All-District Team, which honors a combination of academic and athletic accomplishments of the individuals selected. Nominees must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher.

Bevis, native of Wichita, Kansas, holds a 3.90 GPA as a Chemistry major at FHSU, while Brown, native of Kettering, Australia, has a 3.71 GPA as a Health and Human Performance major. During his redshirt year at FHSU in 2018, Bevis earned the MIAA Academic Excellence Award for a perfect 4.0 GPA before the GAC took over as the governing office for their joint conference with the MIAA in men’s soccer.

On the field, Bevis was an All-GAC First Team and All-GAC Tournament Team selection at defender for the brief 2021 spring season. In 2019, Bevis was the GAC Freshman of the Year and received an All-GAC Honorable Mention selection. That year, he was also tabbed as an All-Central Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA. Brown was also an All-GAC First Team selection for the spring season in 2021, producing three shutouts in Fort Hays State’s seven matches. He owned a 0.6 goals against average with a solid .857 save percentage. Both Bevis and Brown helped the Tigers to the GAC regular season title in 2019 and the team’s eighth-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, which remains the longest active streak in NCAA Division II since there was no national tournament this past academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As All-District selections, Bevis and Brown will now be considered for Academic All-America honors to be voted on by Sports Information\/Athletic Communication professionals nationwide in NCAA Division II.
