\u00adElizabeth \u201cBeth\u201d Miller, an FHSU Online student from Cheyenne, Wyo., is the 2021 winner of the Lynn Haggard Undergraduate Library Research Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This prestigious award recognizes\nexcellence in undergraduate research that incorporates the use of Fort Hays\nState University\u2019s Forsyth Library resources and demonstrates sophisticated\ninformation literacy skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is a deep honor to have my work\nand research recognized with this award,” Miller said. \u201cIt is my desire to\nmerge my teaching degree with my web development degree and create websites and\napps for education.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miller will receive a $500 cash award\nfor her research project, \u201cEffectiveness of Curriculum-Based Technology in\nStudent Learning.\u201d As a senior majoring in information networking and\ntelecommunications, Miller completed her project in the Research Methods in\nInformatics course taught by Dr. Ginger Loggins, assistant professor of\ninformatics.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeth realized that studies looked at\nonline educational materials in general but hadn’t compared online and offline\nmaterials directly created for a class. Her argument for the study shows her\ncreativity in finding an unexplored area,” Loggins said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The award honors Lynn Haggard, retired\nForsyth librarian, and her 18 years of service to the FHSU community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith the support of generous donors\nlike Lynn Haggard, Forsyth Library is in a position to highlight the library\u2019s\nrole as a partner in student learning at FHSU,\u201d said Leslie Haas, dean of\nForsyth Library. \u201cThis award gives us an opportunity to recognize students who\nhave learned that good quality academic research is not possible without taking\nadvantage of the vast resources and services the library offers.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students who apply for the award provide\na copy of their research project, a bibliography, and a reflective essay\ndetailing the search process and lessons learned. A committee of librarians,\ngraduate students, and faculty from each of the five colleges evaluated the\nmaterials from 26 applicants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis year we had more applications than\never before,\u201d said Elizabeth Downing-Turner, digital curation librarian and\nchair of the selection committee. \u201cBeth’s reflective essay really stood out\nfrom the crowd. This is quite an achievement.\u201d\n\nThe research of the winner will be preserved and\naccessible in the FHSU Scholars Repository at scholars.fhsu.edu<\/a>. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
