They saw\nthat persistence and hard work pays off.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anderson first learned from a friend\nabout FHSU\u2019s online programs not long after she and her family moved to Wichita\nfrom Arizona back in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She checked it out and \u201cslowly, but\nsurely, I kept taking classes and continued my journey,\u201d she said. The more\nAnderson became involved with FHSU Online, the more she was impressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEveryone at Fort Hays State kept going\nabove and beyond,\u201d she said. \u201cThey were always asking if there was anything I\nneeded and giving me phone numbers for support if I needed anything. If this\nprogram didn\u2019t exist, I would not have my degree. Being able to take classes\nonline and be motivated by great teachers to keep going was key.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anderson said she also received a lot of\nencouragement and direction from Scott Gregory, director of field experiences\nfor the College of Education, who is in charge of student teaching programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe really connects with people and does\na lot of student support,\u201d Anderson said. \u201cI feel like he really listens to\nstudents and what they need to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anderson plans to substitute teach\nduring the spring semester with hopes of an elementary education position in\nthe Wichita school district opening for the 2021-22 school year. All the while,\nshe said she continues to encourage other non-traditional students to pursue a\ndegree.\n\n\u201cIt\u2019s never too late to work on your degree, and\nFHSU has a great online program,\u201d she said. \u201cI tell them to take one class at a\ntime if they have to, and they will eventually get there.
