Fort Hays State University will celebrate its military-connected students this year with a number of activities during a week-long event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Military Appreciation Week\nat FHSU will begin Monday, Nov. 9, and run through Friday, Nov. 13. A variety\nof events are planned throughout the week, including presentations on academic\nand student support services, Kelly Center resources, and the military to\ncivilian career transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flags representing each\nbranch of the armed forces and a poster display \u2013 a History of Military\nConnections \u2013 will be on display all week on the first floor of the Memorial\nUnion near the dedication plaque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Service members will be\nhonored on FHSU\u2019s Transfer & Military Center social media posts throughout\nthe week. Students can be nominated for this spotlight via this form<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong> Anyone wishing to thank a\nmilitary member or veteran can also do so by submitting this form<\/strong><\/a>, and their name and\nbranch of service will be added to the social media posts during Military\nAppreciation Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highlight of the week,\nVeterans Day, will feature an 11:30 a.m. ceremony on the Quad Wednesday, with\nlocal U.S. Army veteran Allen Schmidt, the featured speaker. Schmidt, a native\nof Hays, returned to his hometown after retiring as a colonel in the Army\nMedical Service Corps in 2011. Schmidt, a Fort Hays State alum (master\u2019s in\nschool psychology), currently is a member of the Kansas Board of Regents. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The week will conclude\nwith a military-to-civilian career transition presentation on Thursday and a\nmilitary vehicle display from the Kansas National Guard near the bronze Tiger\nsculpture on College Drive near the west entrance of the union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
