Beginning immediately, FHSU will offer degree program emphases in Agronomy Business, Agricultural Leadership, and Agricultural Communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, current trends\nshow a national shortage of college graduates in agricultural sciences and\npredicts an overall growth in agricultural and natural resource occupations.\nFort Hays State graduates, known for their resilience and ability to adapt and\napply cutting-edge technology in real-world situations, will be positioned to\nlead in the agriculture workforce in the coming years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are excited to bring these new degree program\noptions to the marketplace because they are based on what employers and\nstudents say they need in the fields, co-ops, and offices\u201d said Dr. Clyde\nCranwell, chair of the department of agriculture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The degree program in Agronomy Business has its roots in\nFHSU&#8217;s constant commitment to innovation and ensuring students are equipped\nwith the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to make a difference in\ntoday&#8217;s rapidly changing agriculture industry. Fort Hays State graduates are\nknown for their excellence in traditional crop production disciplines and\nemerging agronomic technology, precision agriculture, and soil science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We reached back out to employers\u2014to those who are\nworking with our students in internships and employing FHSU Tigers after\ngraduation and found that those going to work in co-ops in the rural mid-west\nneeded a unique mix of agronomy and agriculture business classes,&#8221; said\nCranwell. &#8220;This degree combines rigorous academic courses in business,\nmarketing, and finance with foundational classes in agronomy sciences and\nprecision agriculture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agronomy business program will be available on-campus.\nHowever, many classes are available online and provide an opportunity for some\nstudents to blend online and on-campus learning to fit their lifestyle.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new degree program emphases in Agricultural Leadership\nis a partnership between the FHSU Departments of Agriculture and the renowned\nFHSU Department of Leadership Studies. This new degree option is available\nonline and on-campus. It provides students with a versatile program of study\ndesigned to develop students for leadership positions in local, state,\nregional, and national agriculture organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Agricultural Leadership program focuses on the\ndevelopment of leadership capabilities, communication skills, and broad\npreparation in agriculture and how to apply these theories and skills in\nreal-world situations,\u201d said Cranwell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This flexible degree is available entirely online, providing\nstudents around the world the opportunity to earn the credentials necessary to\nadvance their career, earn enhanced salaries, redirect their career path, and\nmake an impact in their local communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agricultural communication degree program will prepare\nstudents to understand and communicate specialized agriculture science and\ninformation through advertising, public relations, journalism, graphic design,\nand telecommunications. When students graduate, they will have established a\nskill-set to create communication materials using new media and technology and\nbe prepared to work in a rapidly growing agriculture industry segment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our mission is to graduate students from the program\nwho feel empowered to tell the story of agriculture to consumers, legislators,\nand other key stakeholders,&#8221; said Cranwell. &#8220;Students will graduate\nfrom FHSU prepared to go to work helping to market their own livestock and\nproducts or to pursue careers in agricultural organizations and industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The department\nof agriculture at Fort Hays State University provides applied, hands-on\nlearning and complementary foundational courses that empower students to\nsucceed in the growing, continually changing agricultural industry.
