The Hays City Commission had a single item of business during their meeting on Thursday.

City of Hays Director of Public Works Jesse Rohr spoke to the commissioners that evening about a proposed stormwater retention mitigation project. At the approval of the City Commission, two basins would be built on the Hilton Garden Inn property, which sits north of I-70 and West of Vine St.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project, already engineered and ready for construction, was designed based on a drainage study in Hays.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNot only are we doing this [project] for volume of water or water quantity,\u201d Rohr said, \u201c but also it serves a component of water quality.\u201d
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that a certain soil mixture and certain types of plants would be added to the basins. These additions would clean and filter the water before it drains into pre-existing pipes that run to Lincoln and 33rd St.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Funding for the project comes from the 2016 Tebo Village stormwater project, but the proposed agreement sees the City paying $130,000 for construction.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the presentation, the commissioners approved the project as drafted.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With no further questions or comments, the Hays City Commission adjourned for the evening.
