{"id":55953,"date":"2020-08-14T07:54:48","date_gmt":"2020-08-14T12:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=55953"},"modified":"2020-08-14T07:54:49","modified_gmt":"2020-08-14T12:54:49","slug":"%ef%bb%bffhsu-launches-transfer-military-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=55953","title":{"rendered":"\ufeffFHSU launches Transfer &amp; Military Center"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By UNIVERSITY RELATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The often challenging process of transiting to college just got a lot easier for transfer and military connected students at Fort Hays State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As\npart of an initiative funded through the university\u2019s Strategic Enrollment\nPlanning (SEP) process, a new Transfer &amp; Military Center opened this summer\nin time for the fall 2020 semester. Led by director Erica Fisher, the work of\nthe center\u2019s staff focuses on serving transfer and\nmilitary students even before they apply via a quicker, and more\npersonalized experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe\nTransfer &amp; Military Center provides prospective students with a seamless\ntransition to FHSU,\u201d Fisher said. \u201cWe are dedicated to creating innovative\npathways and partnerships to enhance the success of our transfer and\nmilitary-connected students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assistant Director and Navy veteran Kelsi Broadway, formerly the\nmilitary student success specialist for FHSU Online, will assist military\nconnected students by evaluating\ntheir transfer credits and military experience to determine how it can apply as\ncredits towards FHSU majors and programs of study. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNavigating\nmilitary and veteran\u2019s services bureaucracies and getting to the right benefits\nand services information can be a challenge,\u201d Broadway said. \u201cOur new center\noffers military, veteran and transfer students a one-stop resource for\nunofficial transcript analysis, personalized student support, and onboarding\nservices\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transfer\nSuccess Coach, Holly Rebel, provides similar services for our prospective\ntransfer student populations. Students can request these services prior to\nsubmitting their application to FHSU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr.\nSeth Kastle, an assistant professor of leadership studies, who also serves as\nthe university\u2019s director of military program innovation, was instrumental in\nthe creation of the center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA\nfew years ago, I was working on the idea of a military center, and Erica was\nworking on establishing a transfer center,\u201d Kastle said. \u201cThrough the SEP\nprocess, our ideas were merged. We\u2019re in a great place to go this route because\nwe have the infrastructure in place to significantly improve the quality of\nservices we provide to non-traditional students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kastle\nis well aware of the challenges military students can face.
