{"id":55663,"date":"2020-06-08T17:19:35","date_gmt":"2020-06-08T22:19:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=55663"},"modified":"2020-06-08T17:19:36","modified_gmt":"2020-06-08T22:19:36","slug":"ellis-county-reopens-fhsu-waits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=55663","title":{"rendered":"Ellis County reopens, FHSU waits"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>STORY BY CORIE LYNN<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fort Hays State University campus officially closed in March, sending home staff and students as a preventative measure against the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, states across the nation &#8211; Kansas included &#8211; began shut-downs consisting of business and social regulations.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, as of June 1, Ellis County <a href=\"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=55595\">has lifted all restrictions<\/a>. This decision comes only a week before the state, as per Gov. Laura Kelly\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.ks.gov\/ad-astra-a-plan-to-reopen-kansas\/\">Ad Astra: A Plan to Reopen Kansas<\/a>, was to further remove restrictions.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though situated in Ellis County, FHSU is not immediately reopening with the surrounding area, and faculty are still discussing what Fall 2021 will look like for the university.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are in constant contact with our Ellis County partners, and our summer reopening plans have been shared with them,\u201d said Dr. Jill Arensdorf, FHSU provost and vice president for academic affairs. \u201cI would anticipate that our Ellis County partners will be consulted on our fall planning as well.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like Kansas, FHSU is following a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhsu.edu\/covid-19-response\/updates\/fhsu_reopeningplan_v7\"> phased reopening plan<\/a>, which will bring employees back to campus gradually and allow only limited public access to university buildings. FHSU reopening is anticipated to take place between June 1 and Aug. 1, with discussion and evaluation of the reopening\u2019s progress during this time.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of the university\u2019s reopening plan, Ellis County\u2019s lifting of restrictions has little effect on on-campus entities.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cResidential Life remained open for those on-campus residents who had no other housing options.
