The time frame is indefinite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FHSU President Tisa\nMason notified the campus \u2013 faculty, staff and students \u2013 by email March 12<sup>th<\/sup>\nof the initial move to online class instruction. The announcement for faculty\nand staff to transition to remote operations was made yesterday afternoon. The\ndecision came after consultation with the university\u2019s Critical Incident Policy\nGroup and campus leaders in light of new guidance from the Kansas Board of\nRegents and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs the University\u2019s\npolicy, planning, and action moves forward,\u201d she said, \u201cwe should continue to\nbe grounded in our fundamental goal of safeguarding the health of our faculty,\nstaff, and students, and we should continue to be guided by the recommendations\nprovided by our public health officials.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The university will\nalso, she said, \u201cstrive to ensure completion and success for students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fort Hays State, with\nits deep history and strength in online education, is uniquely able to meet the\nchallenge of preparing on short notice a semester\u2019s courses for online\ndelivery. The FHSU is one of only a handful of institutions to earn\ncertification from the United States Distance Learning Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That certification,\nwhich is based on a rigorous, 120-point quality review at all levels of\ndistance education, recognizes FHSU\u2019s commitment to following best industry\npractices for online education. For more than a decade, the majority of the\nuniversity\u2019s enrollment has been online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Mason\u2019s email\naddressed key points of the nature of the challenge, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;\nAll in-person classes and events will transition to online, and classes that\nare already online will continue as scheduled. Adaptations for labs, clinicals\nand practicums will be addressed in their respective departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;\nRefunds for room and board will be available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;\nStudents who are able to do so are asked to remain at home after the spring\nbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;\nThe university will move to limited operations and services \u2013 residence hall\naccommodations and food services \u2013 will be available for students who are\nunable to return home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;\nThe Kelly Center and Student Health will transition to providing service\nonline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;\nThe NCAA and MIAA has canceled all spring sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;\nPlans to transition university-sponsored events, major or minor, to online\nplatforms when possible<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Educational\nrequirements that demand in-person attendance \u2013 clinicals, labs and practicums\n\u2013 are being addressed by their respective departments.
