{"id":50577,"date":"2019-11-07T14:13:16","date_gmt":"2019-11-07T20:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=50577"},"modified":"2019-11-07T15:54:47","modified_gmt":"2019-11-07T21:54:47","slug":"%ef%bb%bffhsu-virtual-college-earns-rigorous-distance-learning-quality-certification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=50577","title":{"rendered":"\ufeffFHSU Virtual College earns rigorous distance learning quality certification"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By UNIVERSITY RELATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFort\nHays State University announced today that its online learning program, the\nFHSU Virtual College, has earned certification from the United States Distance\nLearning Association, a nonprofit distance learning association whose work\nfocuses on supporting distance learning research, development, and praxis\nacross the complete arena of education, training, and communications. <br><br>\nIn announcing the\ncoveted certification, the chair of the Quality Standards Certification\nCommittee, Dr. Arletha McSwain, said, \u201cUSDLA is proud to welcome the FHSU\nVirtual College to an elite group of institutions that have earned national\nrecognition for providing exemplary online degree programs and certificates.\u201d <br><br>\nThe USDLA\u2019s\ncertification report pointed to the Virtual College\u2019s visionary quality\nstandards program as a driver in ensuring the university\u2019s ability to remain on\na path to continuous innovation and improvement in online education. <br><br>\n\u201cSince the Virtual\nCollege was established in 1997, the online learning enterprise at Fort Hays State\nhas grown thoughtfully and steadily to the point where today it is the single\nlargest source of enrolled students at the university,\u201d said FHSU President\nTisa Mason. <br><br>\n\u201cThis phenomenal\ngrowth is the direct result of our consistent focus on delivering a\nhigh-quality, affordable and distinctly FHSU online experience,\u201d she said. <br><br>\nThe rigorous USDLA\ncertification recognizes the commitment that Fort Hays State has made in\nfollowing best industry practices for its Virtual College. The university is\none of only five certified distance education providers in the country to\nsuccessfully complete the comprehensive, 120-point quality review of all levels\nof distance education and training. <br><br>\n\u201cThis certification\nis a testament to the dedication everyone, past and present, put forth in\ncreating an exceptional worldwide online operation,\u201d said Dr. Dennis King,\nassociate vice president for enrollment management. \u201cAll of the faculty,\nstudents, staff and alumni should be very proud of what they have created.\u201d <br><br>\nThe USDLA team that\nconducted the certification review was impressed with the Virtual College. <br><br>\n\u201cFort Hays State is\nmaking online learning a priority, and it shows,\u201d said Dr. Chuck Sengstock, a\nUSDLA Quality Standards Certification Committee Member. <br><br>\n\u201cWe were impressed\nwith the initiative and dedication of the online faculty, staff, and\nadministrators. We were equally impressed with the collective results of the\nonline student interviews.\u201d <br><br><strong>About\nthe FHSU Virtual College<\/strong><br>\nFort Hays State,\nfounded in 1902, entered into distance education in 1911 when faculty voted to\noffer courses free by mail so that one-room school teachers across western\nKansas could afford to pursue the continuing education required to teach.
