{"id":49732,"date":"2019-10-18T12:39:58","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T17:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=49732"},"modified":"2019-10-18T12:40:02","modified_gmt":"2019-10-18T17:40:02","slug":"concerns-welcome-at-sga-town-hall-to-be-held-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=49732","title":{"rendered":"Concerns welcome at SGA Town Hall to be held next week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BY CORIE LYNN<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No university is perfect, but FHSU aims to meet the needs of its students in any way it can.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, the Student Government Association is hosting its first Town Hall on Thursday, October 24 from 5 to 6 p.m. in Cody Commons.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this time, students are welcome to bring whatever questions and concerns they have to members of the SGA while enjoying complimentary pizza.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe can talk about the problems that are happening before it\u2019s a big issue, so that\u2019s why we\u2019re doing this,\u201d said Jacki Dougherty, the Community Relations Director of the SGA.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brad DeMers, President of the SGA, stated that it is their job to represent FHSU students and that this Town Hall is just the way to do that.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhether there\u2019s two people or two hundred [at the Town Hall], we\u2019re giving the opportunity for students to voice their concerns,\u201d DeMers said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this time, students can broach any topic. CRD Dougherty explained that they hope to already have answers for students, but will also direct them to where they can find the answer they need.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd there will be no faculty or staff allowed so people can really feel like they can voice their concerns,\u201d she said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, students will be able to bring their question to President DeMers, Vice President Michael Musgrove and Legislative Affairs Director Kaytee Wisely along with other members of the SGA.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to President DeMers, this Town Hall will also serve as a test-run for future Town Halls. This coming week will help them determine how often the event should be held in the future.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt really depends on attendance and how well the event goes,\u201d he said. \u201cEven if we have two [attendees], it\u2019s still our job to [listen to their concern].\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SGA also hopes that the Town Hall proves to be accessible for students.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though students are always welcome to bring discussion to the weekly Student Senate meetings, according to CRD Dougherty, this coming event is meant to meet students where they are at rather than at an SGA meeting.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd the reason we\u2019re doing it this time, this week is part of Free Speech Week with American Democracy Project,\u201d she said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever the concern or need, the SGA welcomes all students to the Town Hall and hopes to take this opportunity to better represent the FHSU campus.<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY CORIE LYNN No university is perfect, but FHSU aims to meet the needs of its students in any way it can.
