{"id":49453,"date":"2019-10-14T10:16:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-14T15:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=49453"},"modified":"2019-10-14T10:16:01","modified_gmt":"2019-10-14T15:16:01","slug":"%ef%bb%bffhsu-psychology-student-to-publish-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=49453","title":{"rendered":"\ufeffFHSU psychology student to publish research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By UNIVERSITY RELATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Research by a Fort Hays State University graduate student will be published in the Journal of Correctional Health Care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley\nLockwood, psychology graduate student, Brooke Mann, lecturer of psychology and\ndirector of the clinical psychology program and Dr. April Terry, assistant\nprofessor of criminal justice, published research on mental health training in\njuvenile correctional facilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lockwood began\nthis research as an undergraduate project surveying corrections officers\nworking at a juvenile correctional facility over their mental health training.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A survey of\njuvenile correctional officers was conducted to better understand their\nattitudes towards mental health, mental health training and ideas surrounding\ntreatment needs for incarcerated youth suffering from mental illness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers\nfound that, overall, the correctional officers held positive views of juvenile\nmental health issues. However, there was a reported need for increased mental\nhealth training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\npublication was accepted to the Journal of Correctional Health Care in\nSeptember 2019 and will be published in the July 2021 volume. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hope our\nfindings will help this facility, and others, to consider the nature of their\nmental health training,\u201d Terry said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By UNIVERSITY RELATIONS Research by a Fort Hays State University graduate student will be published in the Journal of Correctional Health Care.
