{"id":47271,"date":"2019-09-12T10:58:14","date_gmt":"2019-09-12T15:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=47271"},"modified":"2019-09-12T11:21:51","modified_gmt":"2019-09-12T16:21:51","slug":"new-season-of-live-theatre-comes-to-the-fort-hays-state-stage-on-oct-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=47271","title":{"rendered":"New season of live theatre comes to the Fort Hays State stage on Oct. 3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By UNIVERSITY RELATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA season of comedy is\nplanned for the 2019-20 season of theatre at Fort Hays State University,\nbeginning Oct. 3 with \u201cThe Drowsy Chaperone,\u201d a parody of 1920s-style musicals\nstarring Man in Chair. <br><br>\nThe season progresses through Ken Ludwig\u2019s\n\u201cComedy of Tenors,\u201d and Jane Austen\u2019s \u201cPride and Prejudice,\u201d as adapted by Kate\nHamill for a cynical and modern but funny sensibility by Kate Hamill. <br><br>\nThe season-ending opera, scheduled for April,\nhas not yet been selected. <br><br>\n\u201cIt has been our privilege to delight and\nentertain people through the magic of live theatre,\u201d said Tomme Williams,\ndirector of FHSU Theatre. <br><br>\n\u201cWe come to the theatre to unite as artists and\naudiences in performances that create unique and inspiring experiences, taking\nus out of our everyday lives and into the realm of imagination,\u201d she said.\n\u201cThis season is about exactly that: coming together \u2013 whether in celebration,\nhope, faith, love, perseverance, or risk, the stories of this season are of\npeople reaching out and trying to overcome divides between each other.\u201d <br><br>\nAll productions are in the Felten-Start Theatre\nin Malloy Hall on the FHSU campus. <br><br><strong>The Drowsy Chaperone<\/strong><br>\nOct. 3, 4, 5, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 7:30\np.m. curtain <br>\nSunday, Oct. 6, matinee at 2:30 p.m. <br>\nWinner of five Tony Awards, \u201cThe Drowsy\nChaperone\u201d is a loving valentine to musical comedy, hosted by the narrator and\ntheatre aficionado Man in Chair, who invites the audience to listen to his\nfavorite LP record of a fictitious 1928 musical, which comes magically to life\naround him. <br><br>\nThe musical is full of the song and dance and\nthe plot twists that were features of 1920s musicals. <br><br><strong>A Comedy of Tenors<\/strong><br>\nNov. 14, 15, 16, Thursday, Friday, Saturday,\n7:30 p.m. curtain <br>\nSunday, Nov. 17, matinee at 2:30 p.m. <br>\nComic genius Ken Ludwig wrote this sequel to his\n1989 Tony Award winning comedy \u201cLend Me a Tenor.\u201d The setting is 1930s Paris\nwith one hotel suite, four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends, and a stadium\nfull of screaming fans. The stage is set for the concert of the century \u2013 as\nlong as producer Henry Saunders can keep Italian superstar Tito and his\nhot-blooded wife, Maria, from causing runaway chaos. <br><br>\nThis ride is full of mistaken identities,\nbedroom hijinks and farcical delight. <br><br><strong>Pride and Prejudice,\nadapted by Kate Hamill<\/strong><br>\nMarch 5, 6, 7, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 7:30\np.m. curtain <br>\nSunday, March 8, matinee, at 2:30 p.m. <br>\nThis bold, surprising and boisterous retelling\nof Jane Austen\u2019s \u201cPride and Prejudice\u201d puts a modern outlook in Georgian dress.\nThis \u201cPride and Prejudice\u201d for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills\nof finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. One of literature\u2019s\ngreatest tales of latent love has never been so theatrical and full of life. <br><br><strong>Opera<\/strong><br>\nApril 17, Friday, 7:30 p.m. curtain <br>\nSunday, April 19, matinee at 2:30 p.m. <br>\nDr. Joseph Perniciaro, director of opera at Fort\nHays State, has presented works spanning from Mozart to Bernstein. <br><br>\nSeason ticket prices are $25 for students, up to\nage 18 or an FHSU student with ID; $30 for senior citizens, age 60 and up; and\n$50 for the public. <br><br>\nIndividual tickets $10 for students or senior\ncitizens and $15 for the public.
