{"id":45355,"date":"2019-04-24T15:17:26","date_gmt":"2019-04-24T20:17:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=45355"},"modified":"2019-04-24T15:17:31","modified_gmt":"2019-04-24T20:17:31","slug":"%ef%bb%bffhsu-teeca-earns-two-championships-two-awards-at-national-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=45355","title":{"rendered":"\ufeffFHSU TEECA earns two championships, two awards at national conference"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By UNIVERSITY RELATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fort Hays State University\u2019s chapter of the Technology and Engineering Education Collegiate Association won two national championships and a runner up finish in nine competitive events against 14 other universities at the 81st annual International Technology and Engineering Educators Association conference in Kansas City, Mo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FHSU\nchapter had 14 students and five sponsors representing the university. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the second\nconsecutive year, FHSU\u2019s TEECA won the Live Manufacturing Competition, which\nrequired students to design and create a rustic shadow box lamp while\ndeveloping and managing a complete manufacturing assembly run producing a final\nproduct on site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team\ndedicated more than 150 hours of extracurricular activity to their final product.\nTeam members are Danea Buschkoetter, team captain and documentation specialist;\nEric Prockish, jig engineer; Jerome Hoffman, drafting and design specialist;\nand Michael Dick, part specialist and inspector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI could not\nbe more proud of the way that this team came together, committing the necessary\ntime and energy into this competition in order to produce a successful\noutcome,\u201d said Eric Deneault, assistant professor of applied technology.\nDeneault and Randy Jordan, assistant professor of applied technology, are the\nteam sponsors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FHSU also won\nthe Problem Solving Competition for the second time in three years. The team\nwas tasked with building a parking garage at 1\/32 scale. They then had to\nprogram and code the garage to have specific requirements, such as autonomous\ngates that would open and close, a vehicle counter that would count the cars\nentering and leaving, and a billboard for advertisements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team members\nare Blake Hinson, Vincent Evans, Dalton Enfield, Dalton Kraus, and Zach Peach.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe effort\nfrom this team was unbelievable,\u201d said Deneault. \u201cThere was no denying them a\nfirst-place finish this year.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a runner\nup finish, the FHSU robotics team will advance to compete at the VEX Worlds\ncompetition in Louiville, Ky. Team members are Tage Rothchild, team captain and\nengineer, programmer and driver; Jordan Sargent, engineer and mechanic; and\nMicah Nuss, engineer and mechanic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to\nthe national championships and runner-up finish, one FHSU team member and the\nFHSU chapter won awards for their outstanding performance and dedication to\nTEECA and the FHSU Department of Applied Technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buschkoetter\nwas awarded the 2019 ITEEA\/Foundation for Technology and Engineering Educators\nDon Maley Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. Buschkoetter has supported\nand promoted FHSU TEECA by becoming a student officer, holding positions as\ntreasurer and president. She has participated on the live manufacturing team,\nwhere she became a two-time national champion and regional runner-up, and the live\ncommunications and problem solving teams, where she earned national runner-up\nfinishes. She has also been the regional photography champion three years in a\nrow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FHSU\u2019s chapter\nwon the TEECA Outstanding Chapter Award, the most coveted award designated to\nthe most outstanding TEECA organization in the nation. The chapter, founded in\n1986, has amassed 233 podium finishes, 26 national titles and 87 regional\ntitles.
