It’s not something many thought they would ever see — especially in the land-locked state of Nebraska. But rising floodwaters from a large storm system have sent the state into emergency mode. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The start of the flooding is said to have come from a \u201cbomb cyclone,\u201d which hit the central U.S. with hurricane-like winds and severe blizzard conditions last week. The melting snow and heavy rains associated with the powerful storm system now have Nebraska in a state of emergency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The worst of\nthe storm hit eastern Nebraska, and the southeast part of the state is under\nmany flood warnings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drew Gannon,\ndirector of the Tiger Wellness Center, has been affected by the disaster while\nbeing here in Kansas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gannon, who\nis originally from Nebraska, said the storm has had an effect on his family\nstill living in Nebraska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy hometown has had no\nroads in or out passable for several days, so supplies within the community are\nlimited,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since supplies are limited and even\nscarce to those hampered  by the floods,\nhelicopters were planning to airdrop supplies to communities throughout the\nstate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only has Gannon been impacted by the\nstorm because of his family being located in Nebraska, he also cherishes his\nmemories of a state that means so much to him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCrops and livestock have been lost,\nwhich will impact the economy of the Midwest as well as supplies and food of\nthe Midwest and beyond,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some are estimating the flooding will take\nmany years and billions of dollars to overcome. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHomes are gone, lives have been lost\nand semi trucks with supplies can\u2019t make it in because of roads\/bridges being washed\naway,\u201d Gannon said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fort Hays State community can help\nthose struggling in Nebraska by donating items for those in need. The Tiger\nWellness Center is collecting all donations this week until 12:30 p.m. Friday.\nA list of donation ideas can be found below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
