{"id":44503,"date":"2019-03-18T15:15:10","date_gmt":"2019-03-18T20:15:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=44503"},"modified":"2019-03-18T15:15:43","modified_gmt":"2019-03-18T20:15:43","slug":"great%ef%bb%bf-bend-to-be-second-in-spring-2019-series-of-free-hearing-screenings-from-fort-hays-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=44503","title":{"rendered":"Great\ufeff Bend to be second in spring 2019 series of free hearing screenings from Fort Hays State"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By UNIVERSITY RELATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Great Bend will be the second of three free hearing screenings, funded by the Kansas Masons, offered again this spring in western Kansas communities by Fort Hays State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe FHSU\nHerndon Clinic in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is\nvery fortunate to have received a large grant from the Kansas Masons to support\nadult speech, language and hearing services in Western Kansas,\u201d said Marcy\nBeougher, speech-language pathologist and an instructor in the department.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant is\ncontinuing to provide numerous opportunities for individuals of all ages in\nwestern Kansas to receive important health screening services that are\ncurrently scarce or difficult to access. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith Mason\nsupport and funding, we have visited 16 different communities in two and a half\nyears and have screened nearly 600 people,\u201d said Beougher. \u201cWe are thankful to\nthe Masons for the opportunity to help provide free hearing screenings in\nWestern Kansas and to make necessary and important medical and audiological\nreferrals. We are also very grateful for the clinical hours these screenings\nprovide for our graduate students.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The screening\nwill be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the Barton County Health\nDepartment, 1300 Kansas Ave., Great Bend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appointments\nare encouraged to be scheduled ahead of time, but walk-ins will be welcomed on\na first-come, first-served basis. Each site will have four stations, with each\nscreening lasting approximately 15 minutes. Results, follow-up information and\nfree ear plugs will also be provided. There will be no hearing aid sales.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Screenings are\nprovided by graduate students from the Department of Communication Sciences and\nDisorders. Beougher will organize the screenings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last\nscreening of the spring 2019 semester will be in Belleville.
