The Fort Hays State women’s track and field team was represented in Kansas and Nebraska over the weekend. A handful of Tigers traveled to the Concordia Invite in Seward, Neb while the remaining FHSU athletes headed to Pittsburg for the Gorilla Classic. Throughout the weekend, multiple Tigers captured personal records and high place finishes.<\/p>\n
Gorilla Indoor Classic<\/strong> Tessa Durnell<\/a> captured a new personal record following a 10:37.09 time in the 3,000-meters. Shupe also captured a ninth place solo finish in the 60-meters with a time of 7.81.<\/p>\n Yessenia Gonzales<\/a> claimed seventh in the 3,000-meters following a time of 10:04.97, and Mirena Goncalves<\/a> set a new personal best with a fifth place finish in the 5,000-meters with a mark of 17:21.89.<\/p>\n Concordia Indoor Invite<\/strong> Alongside Singhateh, multiple Tigers claimed first place in their respective events. Carson Pierce<\/a> came through with a strong finish to win the 1,000-meters with a time of 3:09.46. In the 5,000-meters, Abigail Stewart<\/a> earned a new personal record with her win following a time of 19:06.71.<\/p>\n Other notable finish from the Concordia Invite includes a second place finish for Averi Wilson<\/a> in the mile run with a time of 5:28.16. Rebeca Avelar<\/a> came in close behind her teammate in the 5,000-meters with a fourth place finish at 20:24.96 followed by Rylea Oliver<\/a> who took fifth place at 20:28.42.<\/p>\n In field events, Summer Kragel<\/a> claimed fourth place in the high jump with her height of 5 feet, 5 inches, with teammate Haley Jones<\/a> at her heels in fifth place at 5 feet, 3 inches. In the long jump, Singhateh earned a third place finish at 17 feet, 11 inches. Behind Singhateh in the triple jump was Mariah Hammersmith<\/a> in eighth place at 35 feet, 5 inches, and Abby Burton<\/a> coming in ninth place at 34 feet, 9 inches. Julia Wagner<\/a> captured a seventh place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 52 feet, 8 inches.<\/p>\n Next up, the Tigers compete in their final weekend before the MIAA Indoor Conference Championships. \nAt the Fourth Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic, the women’s 4×400 meter relay is bringing home a new school record alongside Peri Lange<\/a>, Lyric Holman<\/a>, Lindsay Shupe<\/a> and Mattie Rossi’s performance. The group put together a tenth place finishing time of 3:55.66, breaking the record which was set in 2016.<\/p>\n
\nOne highlight from Seward came at the feet of Rohey Singhateh<\/a> as she claimed a provisional mark in the triple jump following her win of the event. Singhateh hit her provisional with a distance of 39 feet, 8 inches.<\/p>\n
