{"id":43616,"date":"2019-02-08T09:31:41","date_gmt":"2019-02-08T15:31:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=43616"},"modified":"2019-02-08T09:34:30","modified_gmt":"2019-02-08T15:34:30","slug":"fhsu-students-to-present-at-kansas-undergraduate-research-day-at-capitol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=43616","title":{"rendered":"FHSU students to present at Kansas Undergraduate Research Day at Capitol"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>By UNIVERSITY RELATIONS<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Undergraduate researchers from Fort Hays State University will present their research projects at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Topeka as part of the Kansas Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>Students will join other undergraduates from Kansas Board of Regents public four-year universities on the first-floor rotunda of the Capitol building.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis prestigious event is an opportunity for our state legislators and visitors to the Capitol to see the quality of research our undergraduate students are engaged in,\u201d said Leslie Paige, director of Fort Hays State\u2019s Office of Scholarship and Sponsored Projects.<\/p>\n<p>Brief poster presentations will be given to students, faculty, KBOR members, state lawmakers, and members of the public from across the state. The event is intended to raise awareness of research being conducted by undergraduate students.<\/p>\n<p>This event also highlights the importance of transformational educational opportunities available to students at these institutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event showcases the significance of undergraduate discovery and research activities at FHSU, and provides a sample of our contributions to Kansas communities and academic disciplines,\u201d said Paige.<\/p>\n<p>Students presenting are listed in alphabetical order.<\/p>\n<p>Brittany Duer, <strong>Chapman<\/strong> senior majoring in agriculture, will present on \u201cAnalyzing Soil Health under Cover Crops and No Cover Crops in Western Kansas Dryland Farming.\u201d Cordell Cyr, <strong>Clyde<\/strong> junior majoring in agricultural business, and Kinzie Bangerter, <strong>Leoti<\/strong> junior majoring in agriculture, were co-investigators. The team was mentored by Dr. Ammar Bhandari, assistant professor of agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>Kiley Heine, <strong>Great Bend<\/strong> senior majoring in sociology, will present \u201cAttitudes about Municipal Water Conservation and Participation in City-Sponsored Conservation Initiatives.\u201d Heine\u2019s co-investigator was Diane Hernandez-Ramirez, <strong>Kansas City<\/strong> senior majoring in organizational leadership.
