The Student Government Association held their first meeting of the month on Thursday, November 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting began with a movement to amend the minutes of a previous meeting with the executive reports following this motion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reports were given by several of the executive members. This included President Adam Schibi giving a recap of his meeting with a Strategic Growth Committee, Vice President Kayelani Kirschbaum announcing a Veterans Day Event to be held in the Union at 11:11 a.m. on November 12, and Community Relations Director Jacki Dougherty introducing a No-Shave November contest in which members of the SGA can take part.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dougherty also announced that this week the date for the Big Event was officially set for this coming April on the 13.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Dougherty, the Big Event is a community involvement event that has taken place for the past nine years. While this year\u2019s project has yet to be determined, she said that in the past they have worked with the Arc of Central Plains and have stuffed Easter Eggs for the Sternberg Museum\u2019s Easter egg hunt.<\/span><\/p>\n

The committee reports followed the executive reports. During this time, Senator Reilly Franek reported that two bills are set for first readings in the Senate Affairs committee.<\/span><\/p>\n

Senator Denice Lastra-Blanco of the Student Relations & Involvement committee reported that a potluck for the FHSU international students will take place on November 15. The goal of this potluck is to provide the students with a meal during the Thanksgiving holiday as well as teach them more about the holiday itself.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other committee reports included discussion of changes in the commencement schedule and end of term events during the Spring of 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the committee reports concluded, the senators used an open forum to discuss changes to the SGA website. One senator requested that the website be changed so that senatorial applications are more directly available. While they will look into this, President Schibi said that they are also considering other ways that the website can be improved.<\/span><\/p>\n

Three bills were read after the open forum.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first concerned appropriations for a Sigma Phi Epsilon trip to Dallas so they may attend a leadership conference. The second and third were bills for Austin Krejdl and Braden Scott to fill vacant senatorial seats.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following this, the senators passed a resolution to enstate Colin Dujakovich of the Criminal Justice Club as the October Student Leader of the Month.<\/span><\/p>\n

There were several announcements before the conclusion of the meeting. These included announcements that the Office of Admissions has a position open for a Student Ambassador and that the first Virtual Student Senate meeting will take place the following week.<\/span><\/p>\n

During this time, as they had throughout the meeting, the senators reminded everyone present to vote in the Midterm Election on Tuesday, November 6.<\/span><\/p>\n

The next SGA meeting will take place on November 8 at 7:00 in the evening.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
