JOSEPH, Mo. &#8211; A late rally from the Fort Hays State volleyball team wasn&#8217;t enough against Missouri Western Saturday (Sept. 29), with the Griffons holding on to win in three sets. The Tigers move to 6-13 on the year and 0-7 in MIAA play, while Missouri Western is now 10-9 overall and 3-4 in league action.<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers kept things close in the opening set, leading as late as 7-6 after consecutive kills from <a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/e453dcec-da18-4c32-81e0-599dae39b884?elinkdata=112529\">Ashley Webb<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/a9b93811-6145-4dd1-bd0c-e7fa26c20c76?elinkdata=112529\">Kayla Vitztum<\/a>. Missouri Western started to pull away at that point, using a 14-4 run to go in front by nine, 20-12, before taking the set 25-16. The Griffons quickly went in front in the second set, 7-2, keeping that pace throughout the frame to take a 2-0 lead, 25-8.<\/p>\n<p>Fort Hays State came out of the locker room on a mission, rushing out to a five-point lead, 6-1. <a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/5c38d1c1-3cef-4cd7-ae79-f4fd07351ca6?elinkdata=112529\">Jordan Eshbaugh<\/a> combined with <a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/f5d13053-db31-4cb4-ba63-1cff3e878df5?elinkdata=112529\">Isabelle Reynolds<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/bbe121e8-5a52-4ec7-b9d8-0c803669724e?elinkdata=112529\">Azlyn Cassaday<\/a> early for a pair of blocks before Cassaday knocked down back-to-back kills to put the Tigers in front 5-1. <a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/a15fac5d-112e-4b68-b253-6783e1f41e55?elinkdata=112529\">Abbie Hayes<\/a> wrapped up the run with a service ace, giving the Tigers their largest lead of the match. Fort Hays State led as late as 11-7, but Missouri Western bounced back to score 15 of the next 22 points to jump in front, 22-18. <a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/649f062e-f8de-498d-b33c-d244e64e56bb?elinkdata=112529\">Tatum Bartels<\/a> trimmed the deficit to two with back-to-back kills before the Griffons reached match point with two points of their own. Consecutive Griffon errors followed another kill from Bartels, helping the Tigers close within one, 24-23. Missouri Western broke the skid after a game-winning kill from Ali Tauchen, winning the final set 25-23.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/14c39b6d-5a85-4294-bf0a-364588d4bbc7?elinkdata=112529\">Azlyn Cassaday<\/a> led the Tigers with eight kills, 11 digs and a pair of blocks. <a href=\"http:\/\/fhsuathletics.com\/services\/go.ashx\/800e904f-8529-4542-8ad8-fd71f1ad52ed?elinkdata=112529\">Bre Becker<\/a> led the team with 15 assists while Hayes added 10 digs and the lone Tiger service ace.<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers will return to action next weekend when they travel to Warrensburg, Mo. to take on Central Missouri Friday (Oct. 5) at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION ST.
