{"id":39835,"date":"2018-09-07T13:44:08","date_gmt":"2018-09-07T18:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=39835"},"modified":"2018-09-07T13:44:45","modified_gmt":"2018-09-07T18:44:45","slug":"career-services-plans-to-help-students-make-their-mark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=39835","title":{"rendered":"Career Services plans to help students &#8216;Make Their Mark&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By HALEY WHITE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Tiger Media Network<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fort Hays State University has made it a habit of preparing students for life beyond earning a degree.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Career Services department of FHSU has designed an event to help students prepare for the next level &#8212; \u00a0\u201cMaking Your Mark,\u201d an assembly of scheduled events beginning Sunday during FHSU Career Readiness Week 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cThe main objective of next week will be to help students practice and prepare for job searches,\u201d said Karen McCullough, director of Career Services. \u201cWe want to make them feel as comfortable and confident as possible while entering their desired career.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Tailored for Tigers Open House will begin Career Readiness Week from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Room 39 in Forsyth Library. The event offers refreshments and a tour of the clothing closet that is filled with professional attire to give students an idea of appropriate clothing to wear during an interview. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Monday, the etiquette dinner will be at 7 p.m. in the Fort Hays Ballroom in the Memorial Union. It costs $10 to attend the event and network reception. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI am ecstatic with the increase in student participation in the Etiquette Dinner from last time we held this event,\u201d McCullough said. \u201cMany RSVPs have already been made that surpass last year\u2019s numbers.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mccullough believes scheduling the events to occur all in one week will increase student participation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cLast year, we scattered these events throughout the year,\u201d she said. \u201cI believe if we delegate one week in the semester to hold these events, more students would be interested in attending them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tuesday\u2019s events focus on personal branding and networking. From 9 a.m. to noon, a Personal Branding Conference will take place in the Fort Hays Ballroom. Students will be able to practice interview skills by attending the Mock Interview sessions from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the ballroom. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At 6:30 p.m., students can attend the Networking Reception in the Eagle Communications Hall in Robbins Center. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI think some students could use guidance on how to network themselves while they are still in school,\u201d McCullough said. \u201cWe are eager to meet students and help them obtain these skills.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The last day of Career Readiness Week will allow students to give themselves the professional edge as an undergrad. All events Wednesday will be at the Memorial Union. Beginning at 9:30 a.m., students can attend the Career Readiness Conference in the Pioneer Room until 1 p.m. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Study Abroad Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Sunset Lounge. Lastly, the Career and Internship Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Black and Gold Room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe have seen so much excitement from students as the event nears,\u201d McCullough said. \u201cWe are just as excited to help FHSU students in the areas they need in order to become successful after graduation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By HALEY WHITE Tiger Media Network Fort Hays State University has made it a habit of preparing students for life beyond earning a degree.
