Karrie Simpson Voth, chair of Fort Hays State University\u2019s Department of Art and Design, and Libby Reimer, art and design graduate student, recently presented at the University and College Designers Association Design Education Summit, \u201cGood Design Works,\u201d in Youngstown, Ohio.<\/p>\n
Their presentation, \u201cTwo bottles of Wine and a Heaping Dose of Viral Engagement: When Design and Politics Collided on Social Media at a Kansas University,\u201d discussed the \u201cLet Your Voice Be Heard\u201d poster competition project done each year in FHSU\u2019s history of graphic design class.<\/p>\n
Students create posters promoting awareness of social and political issues. The competition, also sponsored by the American Democracy project, creates political engagement on Facebook as students and community members discuss posters.<\/p>\n
The poster competition, which began in 2008, first went viral in 2015 when the winning posters sparked widespread debate and discussion after being published on Facebook.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood Design Works\u201d spotlights all aspects of purpose-driven graphic and interactive design that has an influential and positive impact on the world.<\/p>\n
