{"id":35275,"date":"2017-11-17T14:00:42","date_gmt":"2017-11-17T20:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=35275"},"modified":"2017-11-17T10:38:56","modified_gmt":"2017-11-17T16:38:56","slug":"michael-tilford-diversity-conference-speaker-bakari-sellers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=35275","title":{"rendered":"Michael Tilford Diversity Conference Speaker: Bakari Sellers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BY TMN STAFF<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XNNPgC0wsu8?start=4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, October 24th, Bakari Sellers, a CNN Political Analyst, Lawyer, and Activist, spoke at Fort Hays State&#8217;s 2017 Michael Tilford Diversity Conference.\u00a0The Michael Tilford Conference provides an opportunity for faculty, staff, and administrators at the Kansas Board of Regents&#8217; institutions to approach diversity in higher education by examining the challenges and opportunities in Kansas including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inspire awareness of multiple dimensions of diversity, related practices of inclusion, and the transformation of higher education in Kansas.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in workshops to learn about challenges and strategies for teaching diverse populations on Kansas campuses.<\/li>\n<li>Share your passion for teaching and interacting with students from all backgrounds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sellers made history in 2006 when as a 22-year-old, he made history by defeating a 26-year incumbent\u00a0State Representative to become the youngest member of the South Carolina state legislature and the youngest African American elected official in the\u00a0nation.
