\u201cIt\u2019s frustrating because we are so good, we\u2019ve just got to relate our practices and talents to results and game play,\u201d Head coach Craig Shaw said.<\/p>\n
The frustrating is coming during a year in which the women\u2019s soccer team has started just 3-5 despite being the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association\u2019s most talented team.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we\u2019re in a hole and all we have to do is dig ourselves out,\u201d sophomore Dani Harris said.<\/p>\n
Tigers took the first step to getting out of the hole with a 2-1 victory, Tuesday night at soccer stadium over Bethany College.\u00a0 The win ends a four game skid in which all losses came on the road.<\/p>\n
Defense was key in the first half of the game as the Swedes were held without a shot and Fort Hays led 1-0 off Harris scoring within the 23rd minute.<\/p>\n
The second half was sparked by a thrown in goal as sophomore Kylee Loneker tossed it up to sophomore Cenayda Guzman who netted it by a eye popping bicycle kick, that left everyone in awe, expect Guzman.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn high school me and my dad would mess around outside and practice those silly things,\u201d Guzman said.<\/p>\n
Fort Hays got away from \u201cplaying their game\u201d after the remarkable goal and Bethany clawed back within a goal when Jenna Russell scored making it 2-1.\u00a0 Defense shifted towards the Swedes from the 64th minute as the Tigers struggled to get by the mid stripe, but Fort Hays still held on for the win.<\/p>\n
Next on the slate for Fort Hays is a MIAA opponent in Missouri Southern, as the Tigers are still looking for that first MIAA win.\u00a0 Game is set for 7 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
