PUEBLO, Colo. – Fort Hays State Women’s Tennis split a pair of matches on Saturday (Sept. 10), moving to 1-2 overall on the season. The Tigers fell in a morning match to Metro State University of Denver by a score of 8-1 before defeating Colorado College 6-3 in an afternoon match for their first win of the season.<\/p>\n
Metro State 8, Fort Hays State 1<\/strong><\/p>\n Just like the first match of the season on Friday, Lauren Lindell was the only Tiger to gain a point in an 8-1 loss to Metro State. She took her match at No. 3 singles by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 over Emily Kerr. Nicole Lubbers nearly picked up another point for the Tigers, falling in a three-set match at No. 4 singles. She took the first set 6-3 before falling 6-1 and 10-7. All other singles matches were straight-set wins for Metro State.<\/p>\n The No. 3 team of Alina Villalovos and Laura Jimenez-Lendinez made the most noise in doubles, falling 8-4 in their match.<\/p>\n Fort Hays State 6, Colorado College 3<\/strong><\/p>\n The Tigers took two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches to claim their first win of the season, defeating Colorado College.<\/p>\n The two wins in doubles action were tightly contested as the No. 2 team of Nicole Lubbers and Jessica Johnson won 8-5 and the No. 3 team of Alina Villalovos and Laura Jimenez-Lendinez won 9-7. The No. 1 team of Natalie Lubbers and Lauren Lindell lost 8-5.<\/p>\n All singles matches ended in straight sets. Jessica Johnson took a barnburner first set at No. 5 singles, winning a tiebreak 16-14. She went on to take the second set 6-3. Lauren Lindell won at the No. 2 position 6-1, 6-1. Natalie Lubbers won at No. 3, 6-3, 7-5. Haley Weidemann took the No. 6 match, 6-1, 6-1. Jimenez-Lendinez fell at No. 1 by scores of 6-3, 6-2, and Nicole Lubbers fell at No. 4 by scores of 6-1, 6-1.<\/p>\n The Tigers return home to play an exhibition match with Barton (Kan.)
