KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State men’s and women’s soccer combined to land 24 student-athletes on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Both teams had 12 honorees. Three earned MIAA Scholar-Athlete honors – Michael Yantz<\/a><\/dfn> for the men and Baylie Schmitz<\/a><\/dfn> and Gabrielle Makatura<\/a><\/dfn> for the women.<\/p>\n

To be a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. To earn Scholar-Athlete honors, student-athletes must earn All-MIAA status in their respective sport and carry a GPA of 3.5 or higher.<\/p>\n

Members of the men’s team on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll include Michael Yantz<\/a><\/dfn>, Luan Silva<\/a><\/dfn>, Joe Albright<\/a><\/dfn>, Tobias Patino<\/a><\/dfn>, Luis Torres<\/a><\/dfn>, Damion Cooper<\/a><\/dfn>, Addison Pauler<\/a><\/dfn>, Maurizio Costa<\/a><\/dfn>, Drew Wilson<\/a><\/dfn>, Brian Ness<\/a><\/dfn>, Daniel Kelly<\/a><\/dfn>, and Tyler VanCamp<\/a><\/dfn>.<\/p>\n

Members of the women’s team on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll include Abbie Flax<\/a><\/dfn>, Kelsey Steffens<\/a><\/dfn>, Baylie Schmitz<\/a><\/dfn>, Hannah Jurgens<\/a><\/dfn>, Jasmine Beaulieu<\/a><\/dfn>, Dani Harris<\/a><\/dfn>, Mallory Diederich<\/a><\/dfn>, Gabrielle Makatura<\/a><\/dfn>, Silvana Romero<\/a><\/dfn>, Vianei Sanchez<\/a><\/dfn>, Ember Albertson<\/a><\/dfn>, and Regan Lawler<\/a><\/dfn>.<\/p>\n

Yantz earned All-MIAA Second Team honors with a 12-5-1 record and five shutouts, which ties for the most in the MIAA. Yantz is a sophomore from Warsaw, Ind., majoring in Finance and has a 3.85 GPA. Makatura received the Scholar-Athlete Award for the second straight year. The senior from Lakewood, Colo., was an All-MIAA Honorable Mention selection this season and she is majoring in International Business with a GPA of 3.77. Schmitz is a sophomore from Littleton, Colo. earning all-conference honorable mention honor as well at defender. She is majoring in nursing and has a 3.8 GPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/colgroup>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
